The Allahabad High Court today sought response from the Centre and the Archaeological Survey of India on a petition by over 50 tourist guides from Agra against non-renewal of their licenses.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice D B Bhosle and Justice Yashwant Verma asked the Centre and the ASI to file their replies within a month.
The order was passed on a petition filed by Deepak Dan and 52 other tourist guides from the city of Taj who have moved the court contending that their licenses, issued as per the guidelines of 2003, had expired on March 26 last year but the ASI was refusing to renew those citing new guidelines that came into effect on September 07, 2015.
The petitioners have said since their licenses had been issued prior to framing of the new guidelines, they were "entitled" for having those renewed in accordance with the guidelines of 2003.
The petitioners have prayed for a direction to the respondent authorities that their licenses be renewed.
