The Madras High Court has directed the ADGP-Crime Branch-CID to appear before it on September 30 in connection with a Habeas Corpus plea as there was no progress in the probe in a missing girl case by the agency though court had issued orders on April 19.

V Santhanam, a bus owner from Pattukottai in Thanjavur district, had filed the HCP, saying his 21-year-old daughter had been missing since November 25 last.

The Madurai Bench of the high court had earlier transferred the case to the CB-CID wing after police failed to trace the missing girl.

Further the Court directed the ADGP of CB-CID to appoint a officer in the rank of DSP for investigation.

Several adjournments had been given on the basis of the representation made by CBCID but still there was no progress in the case, the court said.

As there was no progress in the CB-CID investigation, a Division Bench of Justice V Dhanapalan and Justice M Duraiswamy directed CB-CID ADGP Karan Sinha to appear before it in person.

The petitioner had alleged that one Ashok, a relative, kidnapped his daughter when her betrothal was about to be held. Police had taken them into custody but on their way to Pattukottai, both escaped. He alleged that police had not taken any steps to trace his missing daughter and filed the HCP.
