The Gorakhpur airport was closed and flights to Delhi were cancelled after heavy rains lashed the Uttar Pradesh city throwing normal life out of gear.
The programme of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was scheduled to return to Gorakhpur today after inspecting a rally venue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Maghar, was changed due to rains here.
Modi will address a public rally and lay the foundation stone of a research institute at Maghar tomorrow.
Heavy rainfall since last night has caused water logging in several parts of Gorakhpur and mobile water pumps have been deployed in many localities, officials said.

The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath airport was closed after "rain water came on the runway", airport director B S Meena said.
"Both Air India and SpiceJet flights to Delhi are cancelled as rain water came on the runway," he said.
In the Ghantaghar area, a house collapsed due to heavy rain that started last night and continued till 8 am today.
Heavy water logging occurred in the Betiahata area and water entered houses at many places, including Retichok, Miyan Bazarm Buxipur and Jatashankar.
Those who had shops at Asrun and Rapti complexes, and the Pandeyhata and Ghantaghar areas faced huge losses as water entered their stores.
"Fifty-eight mm of rainfall was recorded in just four hours. It was heavy rainfall," assistant municipal commissioner D K Sinha said.
"We are working since 6 am, water pumps and mobile water pumps were used to take the water out and at many places the water has been drained," he said.
The official said as far as the problem of water logging in Betiahata is concerned, the area is a low lying land and due to dispute over a drainage channel (nullah) work is getting hindered.
