A history-sheeter was arrested from suburban Ghatkopar for allegedly murdering a man, who is yet to be identified, the police said here today.
The 58-year-old victim, who appeared to be a godman, but whose identity is yet to be established, had slept on a cement chair outside Vidyavihar railway station on the night of March 25, the police said.
The accused Subhash Shinde (32), who usually sleeps on the chair every night began arguing with the victim for sleeping there and allegedly snatched whatever money the victim had, an officer at Ghatkopar police station said.
Later, the accused hit the victim with a stone and fled the spot at about 3 am.
At about 6.30 am in the morning on March 26, the police received a phone call about a dead body, though no information was received that could help to establish his identity.
Shinde, who was nabbed after the police learnt about his interaction with the victim, confessed to the crime and explained the sequence of events which led to the victim's murder, the police said, adding that Shinde also did not know the identity of the victim.
The police is still clueless about the victim's identity or his personal details.
