Hold DDCA elections by June 30: HC to cricket body administrator

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

The High Court has directed the to convene the cricketing body's annual general body and hold elections for its managing committee by June 30.

A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and A K Chawla said the results of the polls should be announced immediately thereafter.

The directions by the bench came on an application moved by the administrator, former Vikramajit Sen, seeking time till July 15 to hold the elections, for which the court had earlier given eight weeks' time from March 23.

In the application, filed through Pradeep Chhindra, the sought the additional time in view of the ongoing season and other infrastructure-related work that the and (DDCA) has to carry out.

The for proper functioning of the DDCA was appointed during the hearing of a 2010 petition of the cricketing body seeking occupancy certificate from South Municipal Corporation to hold matches at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground.

The DDCA is yet to obtain a final structural stability certificate for its Feroz Shah Kotla stadium's old club house also known as R P Mehra block.

The administrator had on April 13 moved a separate application in the high court seeking interim permission to set up broadcasting equipment in the old club house for the Delhi Daredevil's matches to be held at the stadium.

However, the court had declined to pass any orders till it heard the South Delhi Municipal Corporation which is to certify the block as structurally stable.

The matter related to old club house of the stadium will be heard next by the court on April 18.
