Two days after Himachal Pradesh was adjudged the best governed small state in the country for the second consecutive year, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur received the award today at a special ceremony here in the capital.

In the Public Affairs Index (PAI) 2018 report released by Benagluru based think-tank Public Affairs Centre (PAC), Himachal was the best governed among the country's 12 small states (with population less than two crore). It was followed by Goa, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.

Thakur was presented with the award by the state's Chief Secretary Vineet Chawdhry and Purnima Chauhan, Secretary Administrative Reforms and Language, Art and Culture.

Chauhan had earlier received the award on behalf of the state from K Kasturirangan, Chairman, PAC during a function organised in Bengaluru.

The chief minister appreciated and validated the consistent efforts made by the officers of the state government to achieve the award.

He appealed to them to work with more dedication and commitment so that people could benefit from the welfare and developmental schemes of the government.

The PAI had this year also included an index on how child-friendly each of the states were. Himachal along with Kerala and Mizoram topped the index.
