Himachal Pradesh government has zeroed in on a land on the outskirts of Kullu for developing an airport, as existing Kullu airport at Bhuntar was facing technical problems in expansion of its runway along the banks of the Beas river.

The land, measuring seven kms, located on the ridge at a distance of 20-km from Kullu towards Mandi side appears to be suitable for developing the air port of international standards, state Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma said.

Runway and a technical survey would be conducted soon to examine the feasibility of the project, he said.

"The existing airstrip at Bhuntar near Kullu runs parallel to the Beas river at a low level and such expansion of the runway, to convert into an international level airport for facilitating landing of bigger aircrafts, is not feasible," he said.
