L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad), which is implementing a Rs 16,000-crore elevated metro rail project in the city, today said it has got a green signal from the state government to proceed with work in two of the three locations.
Earlier, it had been asked to suspend work pending decision from the government.
"The government has conveyed orally to go ahead with works at Sultan Bazar and Assembly areas as per the original alignment. Talks are still on with regard to old city area," V B Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) said in a press conference.
The infrastructure major had earlier said they suspended work in the three locations based on a "request" from the state government.
Meanwhile, Gadgil today inaugurated the sample retail stores and unveiled the retail development plans.
He said a typical station has retail space ranging from 2,500 sft to 9,000 sft at two different locations at a concourse level while Interchange and Special Stations have retail spaces ranging from 10,000 sft to 40,000 sft with store sizes ranging from 1,500 square feet to any maximum possible size.
Reddy had said that in view of the narrow roads and
pedestrian nature of Sultan Bazar stretch of corridor-II, road widening will be minimal as a special case and no religious or other sensitive structures shall be touched by the widening and a 'hawkers paradise' will be developed besides in future these facilities will be converted into a night bazar as well.
Owners of the shops and establishments at Sultan Bazar had in the past held protests demanding that the government protect the historic area, mainly comprising garment and textile shops, by realigning the Metro Rail Corridor-II.
They had observed a shutdown in November against the government's decision to allow the elevated Hyderabad Metro Rail to pass through the area as per the original plan.
L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), the concessionaire, is developing the 72-km elevated metro rail project here with three corridors and 66 stations.
