I made a goof about John Legend: Kanye West

Kanye West has revealed that he once doubted John Legend's talent.

West, who was praising his good friend and longtime collaborator, said he remembered advising Legend not to use the word 'ordinary' in the title of his smash-hit breakout single 'Ordinary People' in 2005, reported the New York Daily News.

"I was incorrect about that one," West said.

The speech was a highlight of the star-studded bash, which celebrated Legend's 36th birthday as well as the 10th anniversary of his debut album Get Lifted.

Toasting Legend's success, West said, "A gentleman, a very well-mannered human being right here."

He then quipped, "I'm trying to get some pointers from him. I don't want to be the Phil Spector of hip-hop or anything.
