Illegal Alprazolam manufacturing units busted in Telangana

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized 600 kg of Alprazolam, worth Rs 5 crore, by raiding illegal manufacturing units.

Alprazolam is a psychotropic substance notified under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the DRI said in a release here. It is used, illegally, to increase the potency of toddy, it said.

Searches were conducted at four places in Medak and Nalgonda districts.

"Over 600 kg of Alprazolam in different stages of manufacture has been recovered. Of this, 18.55 kg was in the finished stage," the release said.

Four persons were being questioned, it added.
