Policy reforms initiated by the NDA government would help India emerge as a major power, South Korean Ambassador Hyun Cho said here today while pitching for greater cooperation between the two countries.

The envoy said the relationship between South Korea and India has progressed steadily and satisfactorily, with economy taking the centre stage.

Delivering a lecture at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) here, he said that the present framework of economic engagement needs a review to promote bilateral trade.

He said that in many ways India resembled Korea.

"The Indian economy is being largely fuelled by the rising aspirations of the ordinary people, especially the youth," he said.

Endorsing the policy reforms initiated by the present NDA government, he said India would emerge as a "big power".

It is an opportune time for both the countries to mutually cooperate in sectors like industry, education, entertainment and culture.

He said that the need of the hour is to join hands together for the benefit of both the countries.
