Innovations must be taken forward to industry: Rao

All innovations and the outcome of research must be taken forward to industry for the benefit of society, a top official of the Department of Science and Technology said here today.

"Let not our researches and innovations get into publications and just stay there. All the innovations should be taken to the industry, thus benefiting society,"Dr P G Rao, Chairperson of Program Advisory Committee (PAC) of DST said.

Rao, also Vice-Chancellor of Meghalaya University of Science and Technology, was addressing the three-day meeting of the reconstituted PAC at Karunya University, on the outskirts of the city.

Dr Rajeev Sharma, Member Secretary, DST, who presided, gave details of different funding schemes of the Department, the two main duties of which were to formulate policies on Science and Technology and fund projects.
 

He said Science and Engineering Research Board (SERC), another wing of DST was capable of funding research,but it was limited to around Rs 50 lakh, whereas there was no limit for funding in Technology System and Development Program (TSDP), where he belonged.

"In our TSDP there is no limit for the funding. We can even fund projects in crores," said Sharma.

More than 50 Principal Investigators from various institutions across India are participating in the meeting and will present their proposals to the Group of Experts and DST, to get funding assistance for their projects, a University press release said.
