Inter-state fake currency gang busted, 3 arrested in Punjab

Police today arrested three persons from Bihar at Khati village on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road here and claimed to have busted an inter-state gang involved in Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) trade.

The trio have been identified as Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Shah and Deepak Kumar and fake notes of face value Rs 79,000 were recovered from them, Phagwara DSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said.

While Manoj, who belongs to Katahra in Sultanganj district and Sanjay from Godiar in Purnea district, lived in Hoshiarpur Road here, Deepak, from Dadhoi in Betia district, lived in Chak Des Raj village of Jalandhar, he said.

The accused had already supplied fake notes of face value Rs 5 to 6 lakh in Phagwara, Goraya and Hoshiarpur. They brought the notes from one Mukhtiyar Sahni in Patna, Chahal said.
 

They were arrested under Sections 420 (cheating), 489-B (using as genuine forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes), 489-C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) of IPC, the DSP said.
