The state unit of Congress today paid rich tributes to the first prime minister of the country Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his 126 birth anniversary.
The function was organized by Pradesh Congress Committee that was attended by senior functionaries of the party.
While paying tributes to Pandit Nehru, senior vice- President JKPCC Sham Lal Sharma said that he was a great visionary and architect who laid the foundation of Modern India.

"The building of a democratic, social and political system was his principal objectives. For him political democracy was a means of solving social problems. He laid the foundation of Panchayati Raj and Community development programmes because he believed that first objective of the state was social welfare and empowerment of the people", Sharma said.
He said that Nehru was the architect of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a third force in the World organization to check the domination of big powers.
He said that Nehru also laid foundation of India's atomic energy for peaceful use and selected Dr Homi Bhabha who established atomic research centre in Mumbai.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Jahangir Mir said that Nehru was the architect of Modern India who laid the foundation of a strong nation based on secularism and equality.
Mir impressed upon the need to inculcate and propagate the policies and principles of Nehru.
