Several political parties, including Congress, NC and PDP, today paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratna B R Ambedkar on his 125th birth anniversary here.
A main function was organised at JKPCC headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk here, which was presided over by Congress state chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
While paying floral tributes to the father of Indian Constitution, Mir described him as one of the towering personalities of modern India who will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution for the upliftment of the downtrodden people in the country.

Mir said that because of his relentless efforts for the rights of the under-privileged sections of the society and to get them their constitutional rights in every sphere of life on the principle of equality, the Indian Constitution is a unique document representing the pluralistic character of our country.
He will always be remembered for his pivotal role in formulating the Constitution of India, the largest democracy of the World, said Mir.
The JKPCC chief also remembered the contribution of Ambedkar during freedom struggle and post independence era.
He said that Indian Constitution formed under his chairmanship is one of the best document in the world which takes care of the aspirations of the largest pluralistic society in the world.
Ambedkar was messiah of the poor and downtrodden in the country and dedicated his life for their upliftment and social integration by protecting their interests in the constitution, he said.
Mir also announced to constitute a committee for year-long celebrations to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar in the state.
National Conference provincial president Devender Singh Rana also paid rich tributes to Ambedkar, saying the great legal luminary has left an indelible mark by ameliorating the lot of downtrodden and weaker segments of the society.
