Jawahar Bagh violence: 75-year-old undertrial dies

A 75-year-old undertrial, lodged in the district jail here in connection with the clashes between policemen and followers of a cult in Jawahar Bagh, died today.

Mathura District Jail Superintendent P D Salonia said that undertrial Mewa Lal, a resident of Hazratput in Ajitmal of Auraiya district, complained of breathing problem this morning and was checked by doctors at the jail hospital.

He was later shifted to the Mathura district hospital where he died in the evening.

Mewa Lal had been lodged in the district jail since June 4, two days after the clash between policemen and followers of cult outfit Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagrah at Jawahar Bagh during an eviction drive.
 

Twenty-nine people, including a Superintendent of Police and an SHO, were killed in the violence.
