Jeera prices rose sharply by Rs 600 to Rs 15,680 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged positions amid pick-up in spot demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in January climbed by Rs 600, or 3.98 per cent, to Rs 15,680 per quintal with an open interest of 6,492 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in February traded higher by Rs 610, or 3.98 per cent, to Rs 15,940 per quintal in 8,178 lots.

Analysts said speculators enlarged positions, driven by strong demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing belts, which mainly led to the rise in jeera prices at futures trade.
