Jeevan, Malik win opening matches in Chennai ITF event

Second seed Jeevan Nedunchezhian trounced compatriot Jatin Bahiya 6-1 6-0 while sixth seed Vijayant Malik won a tight three-set battle against Swiss Jannis Liniger to advance to the second round of the USD 10,000 ITF Men's Futures tournament, here today.

Malik started off well but his unseeded rival used his height and strong serves well to threaten to upset the Indian.

However, Malik fought hard to prevail 5-7 6-3 6-3.
