JK Cong demands probe into death of two people in Uri

Jammu and Kashmir Congress today demanded a time-bound probe into the drowning of two persons in river Jhelum in Uri belt of Baramula district after water from a power project was released without announcement.

"We demanded a time-bound probe into the death of two persons drowned in river Jhelum in Bimyar, Uri on Sunday allegedly due to sudden release of water from a power project without announcement," State Congress Vice President and MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga said today.

"Government should constitute a committee to look into the incident which should file its report within a week so that the reasons behind the incident are known. The officials, found responsible for the deaths shall be punished so that such incidents aren't repeated," Monga demanded.
 

While expressing grief over the incident, the Congress leader conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. He also demanded ex-gratia compensation to their families.
