Kerla Govt raises incentives for paddy growers

The cabinet also enhanced the pumping subsidy for rice growers from Rs 140 to Rs 750. This would, however, the actuals for the farmers in Kuttanad region, known as the "rice bowl" of Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters.

The cabinet also made an initial provision of Rs 35 lakh for the "kol land" development authority chaired by P C Chacko, Congress MP from Thrissur.

"The kol lands", where paddy cultivation is taken up, are mostly spread in Thrissur district.

"Sports for all and health for all" would be the central theme of the Government's sports policy, the draft of which was approved by the cabinet, Chandy said.
