The Kendriya Vidyalaya in east Delhi's Patparganj area will function in two shifts from the upcoming academic session, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani said here today.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and East Delhi MP Mahesh Giri today requested Irani, who was here to inaugurate the new building in Khichripur area here, and she gave a go ahead for running of the school in two shifts.

"Despite being from different political ideologies, we are together for education. To ensure that maximum students benefit from it, the school will not only function in two shifts but will be extended till class 12," Irani said.

Sisodia, who is also the Delhi Education Minister said, "It is needed in the country that after devoting 20 years to education, when an individual enters in the society he should be knowledgeable and mature enough."

"If he or she becomes an engineer, he should not indulge in scams. If he becomes officer, he should not take bribe. It is the responsibility of schools and colleges that they do not just make engineers and doctors but also good human beings.

"People's expectations are about how many footover bridges we are building, how many 'baratghars' are being constructed. But the focus should be on how many schools we are building and how good is the education being offered in them. If I am asked to chose between a flyover and a school, I will chose the latter," he said.
