Lankan boy killed in cricket wide ball dispute

A 16-year-old boy was killed in Sri Lanka during a soft ball cricket match when six players attacked him after an argument over delivery of a wide ball.

The victim who was bowling denied delivering a wide ball while the batsman claimed it was a wide and an argument ensued between the two players, police said.

The batsman then attacked the bowler with a stump and five others joined him in targetting the victim.

The victim was badly injured and later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital, police said.

Six persons have been arrested by the police in this connection in Matugama.
