Lead prices hardened by 1.16 per cent to Rs 166.10 per kg in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions, taking positive cues from the spot market on rising demand from battery makers.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in May rose by Rs 1.90, or 1.16 per cent, to Rs 166.10 per kg in business turnover of 1,604 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in June was trading higher by Rs 1.60, or 0.97 per cent, at Rs 166.90 per kg in 148 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following pick up in demand from battery-makers in the physical markets attributed the rise in lead prices in futures trade.
