Left MPs from Kerala, supported by some BJP and CPI-M members, today tried to raise solar scam issue in Rajya Sabha, but Deputy Chairman P J Kurien trashed the demand for a discussion saying the agitation was already over in the southern state.

P Rajeeve and K N Balagopal wanted to raise the issue when the House re-assembled after lunch at 2 PM.

They pressed for a discussion on solar scam, which has rocked Kerala for last few weeks, saying the matter has been pending despite assurance by Chairman Hamid Ansari that the matter would be taken up in the House.

Kurien refused to accede to the demands, saying the issue has already been resolved in the state and there is no point raising it in the House and wasting its time.

Prakash Javadekar (BJP) lent support to Left members and suggested to the Chair that since solar programme was a central government scheme, it was only befitting that the issue is discussed in Parliament.

"This is a very important issue. This is an all-India issue," he said.

Kurien retorted, telling him, "You have nothing to do. It is over in Kerala."

He also advised the agitating Left members from Kerala to check the fact that the agitation was already withdrawn and talk to their leaders.

"It's unnecessary to raise the matter here," Kurien said and asked Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena to move a bill on Securities and Exchange Board of India.
