A liquor distillery in Rampur has stepped forward to donate vital medical equipment to an eye hospital in the district and has also pledged to bear all treatment expenses incurred by patients.

KD Dalmiya Eye Hospital, headed by Dr Kishori Lal, has received a green laser machine, fundus camera and OCT imported from Japan, donated by liquor company Radico Khaitan, which was formally inaugurated by District Magistrate CK Tripathi yesterday evening.

Dr Lal, expressing his gratitude for the contribution worth over Rs 80 lakh, said that people would now be able to avail treatment for eye ailments in the district itself instead of having to go to places like Lucknow and Delhi.

"This is one of the biggest contributions to the hospital in its 50-year history," Lal said.

President of Operations of Radico Khaitan, KP Singh said that the poor people who could not afford better treatment will now be able to avail it free of cost as the distillery will bear the entire expenses incurred on the treatments, which could go as high as Rs 1 lakh.
