Lock-out has been declared in five plastic manufacturing units in Falta Special Economic Zone today after workers demanded a hike in their minimum daily wage.

The workers of the plastic manufacturing units demanded that their existing minimum daily wage of Rs 199 to be increased to Rs 251 to meet the rising prices.

The management acknowledged the merit of the demand for the hike but refused to implement any raise in wages citing shortfall in export triggered by low demand.

The agitating workers, however, did not accept the argument and kept up the demonstration.

The management ultimately declared lock-out in the five manufacturing units.

The development comes at a time, when the West Bengal government is trying hard to attract investments in the state.

Interestingly, women workers of the units demonstrated demanding lifting of the lock-outs and agreeing to resume work at the existing daily wage.

Falta MLA Tamanash Ghosh has called for a tripartite talks tomorrow with the management, workers and the administration to hammer out a solution.
