The police said Gopal Besra was arrested from his home in Ausgram after his sister Budhna Mandi complained to the police that he allegedly killed her daughter Payel Mandi, a class-I student.
The police said Besra throttled the five-year-old girl on the side of a pond when she shouted and raised an alarm as Besra tried to rape her.
The body was spotted today after the girl remained missing since Thursday.
The girl's mother Budhna Mandi complained that her daughter was killed by his brother Besra.
Besra was remanded to five days police custody when he was produced before a local court.
