Man dies after knocked down by autorickshaw

A 45-year-old man died after a speeding auto-rickshaw hit him while he was crossing a road at Shashergunj area here today, police said.

The incident occurred when one Jangaiah, working as a labourer, was crossing the road when he was run over, said Sub-Inspector Pratap Reddy, attached to Shalibanda Police Station.

Local TV channels beamed footage of the incident wherein the front part of the auto-rickshaw got up in the air before hitting the pedestrian. The footage also showed the front wheel of the three-wheeler coming out apparently after which the auto-driver may have lost control over the vehicle.

A case under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of IPC has been registered and the auto-driver is taken into custody.
