A 33-year-old man here was today arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife, who was in six months of pregnancy, police said.

As per the complaint filed by victim Tahira Shaikh's mother, Tahira married Vikar Jainuddin Sheikh in 2011, a senior police official said.

The 31-year-old victim did not conceive for a couple of years after marriage. After that, Vikar forced her to abort the child, once again she got pregnant, but her pregnancy was terminated, said the official.

The accused was involved in an extra-martial affair, to which Tahira objected and returned to her mother's house.

Vikar convinced her and brought her back to his house.

A suicide note was found from the spot in which Tahira has blamed her husband for abetting her suicide, the official said.

A case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC was registered in this regard at the Kasarwadavali police station, he said, adding a probe was on.
