Man held for beating younger brother to death over alcoholism

A 40-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by his elder brother for being an alcoholic and not quiting the habit in Kalwa town of the district, police said today.

The accused, identified as Dilip Thorat (42), tried to convince his brother Vilas to give up consuming liquor, Sub-Inspector Aniket Pote of Kalwa Police Station said.

But Vilas continued to drink heavily and even demanded money from his brother for the same. On the night of May 17 he was allegedly beaten up by his brother in their house and not allowed to escape, Pote said, adding Vilas died of to his injuries.
 

Dilip was arrested last night and a case under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC registered against him, police said.
