One person has been arrested from North Port area in the city after an illegal firearm was recovered from his possession, police said today.
Mohammed Jaffaruddin (21) was arrested last evening from near Armenian Ghat and one single-shot firearm along with one cartridge were seized from him, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
Jaffaruddin, a resident of Tiljala area, had brought the firearm to sell it to someone who managed to flee from the spot, he said.
When produced before a local court today, Jaffaruddin was remanded to police custody till November 13.
