Man killed for 'extortion' money by 'NDFB-Songbijit' men

One person was today shot dead allegedly by suspected NDFB-Songbijit militants for 'not paying extortion' money in Assam's Lakhimpur district, police said.

The assailants entered the person's house at Sinatolia tea estate under Boginadi police station and shot him to death last night, the police said.

His family members claimed that phone calls had been received from callers claiming to be from the NDFB-S about a month ago asking for an amount of Rs one lakh.

A few days ago his house had been looted, his family said, adding he was gunned down for not making the payment.
