A man was allegedly lynched by an enraged mob on suspicion of being a child lifter, at Bulbulchandi in Malda district, police said today.
He was rescued by police but succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital, the officer said.
Three persons have been detained in connection with the incident and are being questioned, police said.
The lynching comes close on the heels of a similar incident in Assam, where two men were pulled out of their vehicle at Panjuri in Karbi Anglong district on June 9 and beaten to death by irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters.
