Man sentenced to 20 years RI for smuggling drugs

A special NDPS court has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a case of drug smuggling.

Judge of special NDPS court Madanlal Bhati convicted Mahesh Kumar Suthar, resident Sooti village of Mandsor district for smuggling smack and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the accused.

According to Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Rajesh Adsela, the accused was arrested in November 2013 by Kota railway police from a passenger coach of Western Express at Kota railway station.

The GRP recovered 950 grams of smack hidden in his bag, he said, adding a case under NDPS Act was lodged against Mukesh Kumar in GRP, Kota.
 

Adsela said that 20 years of imprisonment is the highest punishment rewarded by any local court in a case of drug smuggling.
