Maoist militia commander, woman member surrender

A Maoist militia platoon section commander and a woman militia member today surrendered before the police in Telangana's Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

Militia platoon section commander Podiyam Lakku and militia member Sodi Laxmi, both belonging to Bijapur of Chhattisgarh, surrendered before the Assistant Superintendent of Police Eturnagaram, an official release issued by the police said.

Lakku (20) had joined the CPI (Maoist) in 2011 as a militia member and participated in an ambush on a police party in 2013 and exchange of fire between police and Maoists at Pavurugudem... In June 2016, it said.

Eighteen-year-old Laxmi had the outlawed outfit last year as a militia member. She, along with Lakku and others participated in exchange of fire at Thummirel... In September last year, police said.
 

She was a part of alleged murder of one Sodi Bheema in June this year, who was branded as a police informer.

"These two persons were disillusioned and vexed with the ideology of Maoists and decided to spend a normal life in the society and surrendered before the police," the release said.

The police also said that no cases will be booked against those persons who have surrendered and will also be provided relief by the government.
