Meghalaya PWD chief engineer L Suchiang was injured when two unidentified persons stabbed him at his residence here, police said on Tuesday.
The official suffered stab wounds on his hands and legs, and was admitted at a private hospital, a senior police officer said.
The incident took place on Monday night around 10.45 pm when Suchiang was returning home in his official vehicle along with a guard.
The police officer said the two men armed with sharp weapons first attacked the guard and then Suchiang during a scuffle.
A case was registered and investigation is on to nab the attackers, police said.
