Mentally ill woman throws baby into water tank

A woman stated to be mentally challenged allegedly killed her one-month old baby boy by flinging him into a water tank today to stop him from crying, police said.

Vairamuthu, husband of the woman, was shocked to find the baby floating in the water tank when he returned from work.

The woman told him that she threw the baby into the water tank, thinking that it would stop crying and go to sleep, police said.

He informed police who were interrogating the woman.
