Militant killed in gunfight in Kupwara

A militant was killed in a gunbattle with security forces at Lolab in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Acting on a specific information that some militants were hiding in Kani Nar area, 100-km from here, a joint team of army and police launched a search-and-cordon operation, a police spokesman said.

As security forces were conducting the search operation, the militants fired at them and in the ensuing gunfight, an ultra was killed.

The operation was still in progress, the spokesman said.
