Karnataka government today tabled a bill in the assembly to amend Municipal Corporations and Municipalities Act to exempt MSME enterprises from obtaining trade licence in the jurisdiction of urban local bodies.

The Karnataka Municipal Corporations and Certain Other Law (Amendment) bill, 2015 moved by Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, considers it necessary to amend Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 and Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 in order to meet the objectives of the Karnataka Industrial Policy 2014-19.

It states that all micro, small and medium enterprises registered under the MSME Development Act, 2006 in concerned district industries centres and large industries are exempted from obtaining trade license.

It would apply to those who have filed industrial entrepreneurs memorandum or industrial licence with the secretariat of industrial assistance, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

On October 20, the state cabinet had agreed to bring in amendments to these acts to give effect to the industrial policy proposal.
