Minor drowned during police raid; SHO, 2 SIs among 11 booked

Eleven persons including a suspended Station House Officer and two Sub-Inspectors have been booked in connection with the drowning of a minor during a raid in Dewa area here, police said today.

A team lead by SHO of Dewa Police Station B D Yadav conducted a raid in Kusumbha village on January 5 after group clash over Panchayat poll related rivalry, Superintendent of Police Abdul Hameed said.

It was alleged that during the raid the team assaulted the locals following which four persons jumped into a pond leading to drowning of a minor, Ankit Gupta, he said.

Yadav was suspended after the incident and an FIR has been lodged against 11 persons, including him and two SIs Jitendra Singh and Ashfaq on charges of murder and vandalism, the SP said.
 

A case has been lodged and matter is being investigated, Hamid added.
