A minor girl tried to immolate herself after she was allegedly raped by a youth in Ramgarh village in Raniganj area here, police said.
The incident took place last night when the 16-year-old girl had gone to relieve herself in a field and one Jwala (22) raped her, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raniganj, MP Salvania said.
The girl somehow reached her home and tried to immolate herself by sprinkling kerosene oil, he said.
By the time her family members found out, she was seriously injured, DSP said adding, she was rushed to the hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.
An FIR has been registered in this regard against Jwala, who is absconding, he said.
