Minor raped by NIS cook

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a cook, working with the National Institute of Sports here.

45-year-old Ram Verma raped the victim, a relative, at his official residence outside the NIS campus on Thursday night, police said. He was arrested today.

Few days ago, the girl's family had gone to their village leaving her under Verma's care.

On the night of Thursday, Verma reached home drunk and allegedly raped the minor girl.

Next morning, the girl approached the neighbours, who took her to senior NIS officials.

NIS authorities lodged a complaint with police and Verma was arrested.

A rape case was registered against Verma after the victim's medical examination.
