AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's accusation on Lt Governor Najeeb Jung regarding relief package from MLAs to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir is yet another political gimmick by the party, a Delhi BJP leader said today.
Former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta criticised Kejriwal for causing "unnecessary fuss" claiming Jung had objected to a request by 27 AAP legislators to donate Rs 20 lakh each for relief and rescue operations in J&K.
Hours after Kejriwal's accusation, Jung's office issued a release saying that the the Lt Governor had "approved" norms to facilitate contribution of funds by Delhi MLAs from the MLA Local Area Development scheme for relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people in J&K on September 17.
Gupta termed the "latest drama" by Kejriwal as yet another gimmick to gain political mileage out of people's misery on tax payer's money.
"The prudent thing to do was to ask his MLAs to donate at least three months of their salary for relief operation to help the citizens cope with the national level disaster in the flood ravaged J&K."
"The AAP leadership should have, instead, collected funds and relief material from its MLAs and supporters and send it to the flood-torn J&K, much earlier," Gupta said.
The AAP MLAs had decided to donate Rs 20 lakh each from the MLALAD scheme for relief and rescue operations in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir. Accordingly, the party had written to the Delhi government to transfer the funds to Jammu and Kashmir CM fund.
In a series of tweets today, Kejriwal said the party had learnt from its sources that Jung had raised an objection to the fund transfer.
