An irate mob today pelted stones on the police damaging one of their vehicles, when they went to lift a road blockade on the Sainthia-Bolpur Road in Birbhum district.
A resident of Pariharpur village in Sainthia was arrested last night for trying to smuggle narcotics, said a senior police officer of Sainthia police station, adding a section of villagers today blocked the road protesting the arrest.
"When the police reached there to lift the blockade, the mob started pelting stones. One of our vehicles was damaged partially. No one was injured and the blockade was lifted soon after," said Debabrata Singha, officer in-charge of Sainthia police station.
