Directed by Dhiraj Meshram, an associate professor at the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), the movie was shot mainly on location at Amravati in western Vidarbha, with a cast and crew of mostly FTII and National School of Drama (NSD) graduates.

"We premiered the movie on two occasions, at Osian's Cinefan film festival during the first week of August 2012 at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi. The feedback we received confirmed that most of us living in urban areas have no clue about what happens in villages. We have tried to make Baromas engrossing and entertaining," Meshram told reporters.

The lead characters have been essayed by Seema Biswas, Benjamin Gilani, Subrat Dutta, Jatin Goswami, Sudhir Pandey and Devika Daftardar.

The movie touches larger issues of corruption, unemployment, methods of farming and farmers' suicides amidst harsh socio-economic conditions through the story of one family. It portrays a multitude of issues faced by the farmers in an honest and unexaggerated manner.
