In order to curb pollution, the Mumbai Youth Association, an NGO, has urged the authorities to replicate in Mumbai the odd-even arrangement of movement of cars on the lines of the pattern introduced in Delhi recently.

"To begin with, the system, which has met with success in Delhi, can be introduced from January 26 for few days till the month end," Association President Pradeep Bhavnani said in a release here.

As per the arrangement, cars with registration numbers ending in odd numbers may be allowed on the roads only on odd dates like 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Similarly, cars with registration numbers ending in even numbers should be allowed on roads only on even dates such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, the release said.

The Association would rope in volunteers to appeal to the people to follow this exercise in public interest as this would go a long way in curbing pollution, the release added.
