Municipal corporation employee held on graft charges

An employee of Panipat Municipal Corporation was arrested by the sleuths of Haryana Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 43,000 from a villager in lieu of clearing his pending bills, officials said.
The accused Baldev Raj, a light inspector in the Corporation, had demanded the money from Surender, a resident of Kharkhra village in Rohtak district, they said.
Later, after he lodged an FIR with the police regarding the same, the vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered in this connection, they added.
