The Election Commission has awarded the District Collector of Nagaur with its Zonal award for his efforts to improve the turnout during the Lok Sabha elections held last year.

District Collector Rajan Vishan was presented the award by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi yesterday at an event held in New Delhi for improving the turnout during his tenure as the District Electoral Officer in Rajathan's Jalore constituency, a statement said.

Vishan reached out to remote places under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) awareness programme thus spreading awareness among people who had not voted even once.

In the Lok Sabha elections, there were a total 18,24,968 electors, including 8,60,922 women, and 21 per cent of total voters were enrolled after the special efforts of the officer.

The constituency had registered an increase of 27.34 per cent during the elections, the statement said.
