National Defence College team meets Chg chief secretary

A team of National Defence College, New Delhi, today called upon Chhattisgarh chief secretary Vivek Dhand here and discussed about the state's geographical, social and economic status.

The 16-member team of the college comprising Army officials from India, New Zealand, England, Japan, Ecuador and Bangladesh is on a five-day long tour of Chhattisgarh beginning today.

On the first day, the team paid courtesy visit to the chief secretary.

"The CS gave the study team a detailed information on Chhattisgarh's geographical, social and economic status and also told them about the developmental schemes being run by the state government," a public relation officer here said.
 

"Chhattisgarh is the first state of the country to enforce Food Security Act and empower people with the right to receive food grain supply at low-cost.

"Right to skill development has also been enacted to provide skill development training to youth in the trade of their choice. Entire country has been lauding the public distribution system of Chhattisgarh," the official quoted Dhand as saying.

The top bureaucrat also apprised the team about the state government's initiatives to expand education, health, road and communication facilities, he said.

The team includes Major General S K Saini as the faculty in-charge and Raghav Prasad Bhatnagar as coordinator.

As part of their curriculum, students of the Defence College are sent on tour different states of the country for socio-economic study of various regions.

During their Chhattisgarh tour, the team will visit Bastar, Kanker and Durg districts after which they will return to New Delhi on February 6.

Additional chief secretary (Home) N K Aswal, Additional chief secretary (Agriculture) Ajay Singh, state DGP A N Upadhyay and other officials attended the meeting.
