The 13th National Inter- District Junior Athletics Meet (NID-JAM) came to an end today with winners of 18 gold medals decided on the last day.
Billed as the Athletics Federation of India's biggest grassroots sports programme, the three-day event saw participation from over 3,800 boys and girls in different disciplines from all over the country.
On the concluding day, a total of 18 finals were conducted. In boys U-16 1000m, all the podium finishers were from Haryana.
Ravi from Panipat district clocked 2:41:64 to bag gold in the event. Shankar (Rohtak) and Ankit (Jind) clocked 2:41: 67 and 2:41:68 to grab silver and bronze, respectively.
In girls U-16 1000m, Amrita Patel (Varansi) grabbed the gold by clocking 3:09:03. Ankita Chahal from North Delhi district won the silver in 3:10:87 and D Jyothika Sri (West Godavari-AP) settled for bronze with a timing of 3:11:44.
In girls U-16 long jump, Manisha Merel (Sundargarh- Odisha) leaped to a distance of 5.08m to emerge the champion. Laura N (Thoothukudi-TN) took the silver, while B Toommy ( Bangalore Urban) secured the bronze.
Ravinder (Jhajjhar-Haryana) won the gold medal with a new meet record in boys U-16 javelin throw. He sent his javelin to a distance of 63.65 m, improving the old meet mark by almost 2 meters. Himalaya Singh (Dehradun), with a throw of 55.60m, finished second on the podium and Rohit Yadav (Jaunpur -UP) threw 55.58m to win the bronze.
In boys U-16 100m hurdles, Ajeet Kumar (New Delhi) clocked 15.16 to strike gold. Second and third spots were grabbed by the boys of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu - A Raja and J Jude respectively.
Sunil Vatas (Narmada-Gujrat) emerged champion in boys U-14 100m race. He clocked 11.80 seconds to grab the gold medal. Rajat (South Delhi) clocked 11.82 for the silver and Y Hari Krishna (Rangareddy-Telangana) got bronze clocking 11.85.
In girls U-14 100m, Pujari Chaarvi (Thane) bagged the the gold medal by crossing the finish line in 13.38 seconds. Deepali Gandotra (New Delhi) clocked 13.49 to win silver, while Ragashivani (Chennai) secured bronze in 13.55 seconds.
In boys U-16 100m, Bhagyesh Sakha (Nashik) won gold by finishing the race in 11.53 seconds. Aditya Raj (Seraikela- Kharsawan) clocked 11.56 to win silver and Shanker Singh (Sundargarh-Odisha) clocked 11.75 to bag bronze.
